Professional Activities and Interests
Onur Seref is an Assistant Professor of Business Information Technology in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Florida and an M.S. and B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. His primary research interests involve combinatorial and nonlinear optimization methods in data mining and machine learning with applications in biomedicine, network optimization theory, and metaheuristics. His research has been published in Operations Research, Journal of Combinatorial Optimization, Computers & Operations Research, Optimization Methods and Software, and Journal of Classification. He has edited the book Data Mining, Systems Analysis and Optimization in Biomedicine, and two special issues of Journal of Combinatorial Optimization on Data Mining and Biomedicine. Dr. Seref is a member of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
